Shou
Wu-Hair-Liver & Kidney
Connection
Scientifically
known as Polygonum Multiflorum, Shou Wu is the main
tonic herb for promoting healthy liver and kidney function. The
liver is responsible for metabolizing food, and storing and supplying
nutrients to the body. The kidney removes toxins and wastes that
would otherwise contaminate the blood. It also effects blood
circulation by producing enzymes and hormones, which respectively
regulate blood pressure and stimulate the production of red blood
cells. |
Nutritional deficiencies and poor blood circulation in the scalp are
some of the more common causes of hair loss. Hair obtains the nutrients
it needs from the blood supplied to the hair follicles. When circulation
is sluggish, and nutrition is poor, the follicles are starved,
leading to
hair loss and depigmentation (gray or white hair).
Shou Wu is used extensively in traditional Chinese medicine to promote
healthy, lustrous black hair.
